This is Geneva!
Geneva
Geneva is 12 years old. She was born in 1986 and diagnosed with Bardet-Biedl in 1991.
She is starting to take on more responsibility for herself and is feeling a sense of pride because of this!
She LOVES anything to do with horses or wolves. Geneva enjoys her therapeutic horseback riding and girl scouts.

Geneva attends a regular school at this time. She has a full-time aide and a number of "pull-outs" daily. She wears hearing aides for a mild hearing loss. Hopefully this will help her spelling and communicating skills.

Geneva receives physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and counseling, braille technology and vision. Her academics are modified to fit her needs. This fall Geneva started playing the trombone and she LOVES it!

Shoes are continually a problem, both width and depth. Geneva's mom, Becky used to make Geneva's clothes, but as she has grown older, she likes to wear what the other kids are wearing. Becky says that LEE makes a jean with elastic on the sides that fit better. When Geneva starts to outgrow these her mom can take the elastic out and get more wear from them. Geneva now prefers to wear big T-shirts and jeans. Sometimes they can find ladies petite that fit and occasionally maternity clothes.

Geneva is improving with her cane skills. She is no longer so afraid of the dark. She has no night or peripheral vision, and her color vision is not so good either. Her central vision is about 20/300 in bright light.

Geneva is on the waiting list for a sleep study at Stanford University. She has cysts on her kidneys but they are still functioning well. She has day and night-time accidents. Geneva knows to stay away from caffeine because it effects her bladder control.

Geneva is 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighs 172 pounds. She knows what a healthy choice of diet is but sometimes still sneaks food. (Don't we all?)

Geneva and her mom have an 8 year old golden retriever named Tigger. They love to travel, read and snuggle together. Becky has been looking into the schools for the blind in her area and across the country!
