Keith was a full term baby but had some problems at birth. He experienced stress before
birth and the doctors decided to induce labor. Keith was born with his stomach and
intestines outside his body. He also had an extra toe. He weighed 4 pounds and 6
ounces. The pregnancy was a normal one.
Keith was transported to the University hospital and had surgery to put everything back in
place. His family jokes that he has a "Man Made belly-button!"

Keith recovered quickly from his surgery and was home within 2 weeks! The doctors at
this time said it was a chromosomal imbalance that caused his problem and it happens
once every 5000 births! (WRONG!)
Keith had his extra toe removed when he was 4 months old along with a double hernia
operation. He was a good baby but slept very little. As he got older his mom, Carol,
realized he was having nightmares! She was told that babies do not feel pain but she does
not agree with this.
Keith matured very slowly. He gained weight extremely fast even though he didn't
eat more than a normal baby. He started wearing glasses at the age of 3 and seemed to
have a lot more learning problems than his brothers. He was very dependent on his
mother for everything.
Keith was diagnosed when he was 8 years old. It took one eye doctor to finally put things
together! Keith and his older brother Jason look like twins and the doctor finally diagnosed
LMBBS. This explained a lot of their learning difficulties and delayed development in
school and out.
Keith is now 15 years old and is a very complex kid! He is a pre-college reader but third
grade in math. He loves the Discovery channel and Science-Fiction, computer or any
thing to do with technology. He is a whiz at trivia games but forgets everyday things ten
minutes after they happen. He has learned Braille in a very short time and takes mobility
training.
Keith is
very quiet and getting information out of him is difficult. He is sweet and all his teachers
love working with him because he is so agreeable! He has a very easy going personality.
He is not the most active kid but is starting to do better in that area. He is still quite large
but is also very tall, nearly 6 feet! Like his brother Jason, he is a gentle
spirit.
Around the age of 11, Keith started walking very stiff legged. His family thought it was
because of his size. Since that time, he has been diagnosed with ataxia. His balance is
poor and of course he also has low muscle tone. The doctors cannot tell how progressive
the ataxia is so his mom is interested in hearing from others who have this same symptom
of LMBBS.
These are the symptoms of Ataxia that Keith has
